ACADEMIC AND INCENTIVE PROGRAMS

Academic Programs

  • Junior Kumon : Junior Kumon is a program for students ages 3-7 years old. Jr. Kumon is designed to develop a child's innate desire to learn and to help prepare them for their first academic challenges in math and reading.

Children work closely with a trained Jr. Kumon Assistant at the Center and with a parent at home. Our individualized and interactive method gives Junior Kumon students a leg up to becoming avid learners and successful students.

    Junior Kumon fosters:

    • A desire and motivation to learn
    • Acquisition of pre-literacy and numeracy skills
    • Comfort in a learning environment
    • Preparedness for school
    • A positive attitude towards learning
    • Confidence and self-esteem

Those students who complete the Jr. Kumon Program (through 3A in Reading and/or Math)will have mastered the basic principles of phonics (Reading) and will have developed a strong number sense and the concept of addition (Math).

  • Math :  The Math Program fosters a confidence in mathematics  by first setting up "expressways in the brain" for the recall of basic math facts from addition through division.  Utilizing this automaticity, the student can easily move through higher math all the way to Calculus and Statistics in small, incremental steps.  As a student masters a concept, the next concept is introduced; this approach allows a student to move at his or her own pace.  If a student needs repetition to gain mastery, then the section is repeated.  This unique KUMON Method has a fifty year history of success in helping students reach their full potential.

  • Reading The Reading Program fosters a confidence in reading through the development of decoding skills, attention to detail, comprehension strategies, and vocabulary development.  The program emphasizes grammar along with analytical skills, and it helps the student prepare for standardized tests.

Incentive Programs

  • American Student Honor Roll:  This Kumon incentive program recognizes all Kumon students working ahead of their school grade level. More than a small share of our enrollment consists of ambitious students who remain in the program to stay above grade level and obtain more challenging material than they are receiving at school in pursuit of their academic aspirations.  Students receive a certificate commemorating this accomplishment, and they are included in our Center's annual Award Ceremony.

  • G by 5:   This Kumon Program recognizes those students who attain Level G in  Math or Reading before they enter 6th grade.  The student receives a brass star engraved with their name and the date of their accomplishment.  They are also recognized by having their name printed on a national  "G by 5" poster.

  • Program Completion Scholarship:   While developing strong math and reading skills are important goals for our students, the ultimate achievement in Kumon study is Program Completion. Students complete the Math Program after Level O and the Reading Program after Level L.

To honor our students who complete the program, we have created the "Kumon Program Completion Scholarship" with a stipend of $100. These students are also recognized by Kumon North America for their outstanding achievement.

When applying to college, students are able to list this scholarship in the section of the application asking them to list any academic awards they may have received.
